MARILYN JOHNSON'S WEB PAGE

Marilyn Johnson
WELCOME!
I am a seventh generation Texan.  My family has lived in the Greater Houston Area for over 150 years.

Houston was once considered provincial, but during my lifetime it has grown and changed into an exciting international city.  It's a great place to live.

Some of my happiest memories are of my years at Houston's Lamar High School.  My name then was Marilyn Ralls.  In my senior year I was awarded a National Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation and was elected Best Thespian.  Drama was my favorite class.

In 2004 I completed a three year term as the Secretary of the Lamar High School Alumni Association, Inc.  Board of Directors.  The Alumni Association began in 1998 and by 2002 had contributed over $160,000 towards projects to improve Lamar's appearance and quality of education.  The Association has gone on to fulfill a $6,000,000 fundraising goal, using these funds to improve the quality of life at Lamar HS.

After graduating from Lamar, I attended  Trinity University in San Antonio.  While in college I married another Trinity student, F.R. Johnson.  We had two sons and divorced.  To support myself and my sons,  I studied really hard, got years of work experience, passed a number of mind crunching exams and became . . . .

a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU),
an Enrolled Actuary,
a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and
a Texas real estate broker.
Although now retired, for over 30 years I owned and operated my own businesses:
PENSIONPRO, a pension actuarial consulting firm, and

THE HOME PLACE, a real estate company.

In 2004 the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) Business Advisory Council honored me by naming me a Businesswoman of the Year for 2004.   This is me receiving the award from Chris Ward, Controller of the NRCC, at the Tax Summit held in Washington D. C., in March, 2005, shortly after the Presidential Inauguration.

In  2005 I was nominated

 again for the same honor.
This time the award was a
very nice trophy...............

Finally having  time to pursue my longtime love of history and genealogy, I joined the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR).  A number of my ancestors were in America before the Revolution.  These Colonial ancestors were Patriots who helped to found our great Nation.

The 150th Anniversary of the Civil War came along, and I became interested in learning more about my ancestors who participated in the WBTS.  Most of the participants were Texas Confederates, so I joined a local Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) to learn about these soldiers and their part in the Civil War.

Both NSDAR and UDC members actively volunteer time and money to living U S Vets,  and I became involved in helping them thank veterans for their service.  In 2016 NSDAR appointed me their Deputy Representative to the VAVS Committee at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, where I also work as a Registered Volunteer.

There's still a little time to pursue other interests, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, creative writing, and crafts.   Follow my links for information pertaining to my professions and current interests.
